Ivan Shishkin (1832-1898) is the Russian landscape-painter, designer, carver. Shishkin studied in the Moscow school of painting, sculpture, architecture (1852-1856). His teacher was A. N. Mokritski. He also studied in the Petersburg Academy of Applied Arts (1856-1860). Here his teacher was S. M. Vorobev. For a picture “The View in Vicinities of Dusseldorf” (1865) Shishkin was awarded with a rank of the academician. In 1873 he became the professor of Academy of Applied Arts and the member-founder of the Company передвижников. He is one of the largest and popular Russian landscape-painter. Shishkin’s figure itself personified for the contemporaries Russian nature. He was named as “as a wood bogatyr as an artist “, “the King of a wood”. Shishkin is a foreman of canvases with widely developed, panoramic views that are famous nowadays.
